The MDS 3.0 implementation and the significant changes to the Medicare RUG-IV payment system is scheduled for October 1, 2010. The MDS 3.0 is a critical part of CMS’ programs for nursing facilities for the Resident Care Assessments used for Payment, Survey, Quality Measures and Quality Indicators that make up the Five Star Program. Significant changes have been made from MDS 2.0 to MDS 3.0 including the use of new resident interview assessments such as the BIMS, CAM and PHQ-9. Customary Routine, and assessments for Pain, Skin Conditions and Treatments and Procedures have been also changed. New requirements for the provision of Therapy services will dramatically change programs at facilities. New requirements for the completion and increased documentation of the PASSAR and Discharge Planning programs will also affect facility policies and operations. Software and care planning requirements will be dramatically altered. |
