New York State Medicaid Alert

Subject: NY Medicaid Case-Mix Payment Readiness

The countdown has officially begun to January 1, 2009, when MDS-driven case-mix Medicaid payment is scheduled to begin in New York State.

While we await final details on the program, this much is certain: providers must accurately capture and report residents at their most dependent in order to receive appropriate reimbursement.

The upcoming MDS system differs dramatically from the old PRI-based methodology, and as such demands new skill-sets and analytical management tools in order to succeed.

Zimmet Healthcare Services Group, LLC (“ZHSG”) has extensive experience with MDS-based Medicaid case-mix payment systems. Our dynamic “Reimbursement Audit Division” currently works with hundreds of skilled nursing facilities in over a dozen states that set payment based on MDS RUG scores, and we have realized tremendous success with our case-mix enhancement program. More importantly, we have worked with many providers through the often painful transition period to ensure they begin the program in the best possible financial condition.

You can and should start preparing now. ZHSG is available to conduct a “readiness assessment” of your facility, and work with your staff to meet the challenges that lie ahead.

We will be holding “MDS Case-Mix” seminars in your area in the months ahead. If you would like to be notified about our upcoming programs, or would like general information about our services, please email us at info@zhealthcare.com to be added to our distribution list.
